What Happens During a Filling Procedure?
Dental fillings are safe, straightforward procedures that our dentist and team have years of experience performing quickly and effectively. When a cavity has been identified, Dr. Adam York will begin by:
- Numbing the Area. We will perform a painless injection of a local anesthetic directly to the gums around the affected tooth. This will completely numb the teeth and surrounding tissues so you will not feel anything while your dentist begins the drilling procedure.
- Preparing the Tooth. We will then drill the affected area using a fine dental drill. This will eliminate the decay that has already infiltrated the tooth, stopping the decay from spreading.
- Curing Light Used To Set the Bonding Fluid. A special ultraviolet light is used to set the bonding fluid.
- Filling the Tooth. At Spanish Springs Family Dental, we use a safe, synthetic composite filling material. This material is applied to the tooth cavity and sculpted into shape by your dentist to match your original bite. The material is then hardened and permanently set with a special UV light.
Recovery usually only lasts an hour or so as the anesthetic wears off, then you can continue with your day as if nothing happened at all!
